Stress Analysis Engineer

Summary:
The Stress Analysis Engineer will design, analyze, build, and test prototype experimental aircraft in a fast-paced research and development environment. The work will focus on reviewing stress reports and finite element models to determine revised margins based on updated vehicle loads and design modifications. The Stress Analyst is ultimately responsible for ensuring the vehicle structural design meets requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
• Performs stress analysis using classical and finite element methods
• Reviews, updates, and compiles engineering analytical definition of structural components and assemblies based on records from the build
• Develops standardized analysis criteria and templates
• Supports review of manufacturing plans and procedures to ensure compliance with design and loads requirements
• Supports the creation of structural test plans which will be used to verify manufacturing
• Pre-processing and post-processing of finite element models
• Evaluating impact to structural integrity of design changes and damage, and determining appropriate modification/rework schemes
• Working on multiple programs at the same time

Required:
• Strong understanding of aircraft performance, systems, and operational requirements
• Experience in aircraft composite fabrication, design, and analysis processes
• Knowledge of composites manufacturing and sizing of composite structures using FEA models, including pre and post processing of NASTRAN models and associated sizing of composite structures
• Strong problem solving, organizational, and communication skills
• A strong knowledge of aerospace technologies and products
• Bachelor of Science in a relevant engineering discipline from an accredited institution or substantial equivalent experience
• Proficiency in 3D CAD
• Ability to work in multiple engineering disciplines on an aggressive schedule
• A minimum of three years of directly related aircraft work experience in the analysis of structural systems using classical and finite element based methods
• Proof of U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain DOD clearance

Desired:
• FEMAP and Matlab proficiency
• Proficiency in Catia V5 or SolidWorks
• Hands-on composites fabrication and assembly experience
• Rapid prototyping experience
• Aircraft homebuilding experience
• Pilot’s License
• DOD Secret Clearance
• Additional degrees or additional relevant work experience

Essential Job Functions:
• Occasionally required to stand, walk and sit for prolonged periods of time
• Manual dexterity and coordination are required (e.g., to operate computer keyboard)
• Requires mobility (e.g., climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl)
• Requires the ability to bend and reach
• Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
• Vision at close distances and the ability to adjust focus
