Scaled Composites Congratulates Virgin
and New Mexico on Spaceport Plans

Mojave, CA. --December 14, 2005-- Virgin and Scaled Composites announced in July of 2005 the intent to form a new company, The Spaceship Company (TSC), a new aerospace production company which will build commercial manned suborbital spaceships and launch aircraft. Scaled Composites has agreed to develop the new systems and to provide TSC with the technology required to allow them to produce the flight vehicles as well as to support the spaceline operators. Scaled’s development work will be performed in its current Mojave, California facilities. TSC production is also planned to take place at the Mojave Spaceport.

The launch customer will be Virgin’s new commercial spaceline, Virgin Galactic (VG). VG has ordered five Spaceship systems and has options on more. VG plans initial commercial operations at the Mojave, California Spaceport. Following delivery of the VG ships, TSC will supply flight hardware to additional commercial spaceline operators.

Scaled congratulates VG and the State of New Mexico on the announcement today of plans to construct a purpose-built commercial Spaceport, the provision of which will facilitate the launch of the new commercial space flight industry. The new industry’s expected volume will require multiple sites and New Mexico’s planned space-dedicated facility will be a key element in building this expanding business.
